What is the Fracture Period?
The Fracture Period is the era we are in. Not a calendar date. A condition.
It began — archivists disagree on the exact moment, but the consensus is around 2022, give or take a year — when the line between human and machine intelligence stopped being a meaningful boundary.
Before the Fracture, the line was clear. You could point to a thing and say: that was made by a person. That was made by a machine. After the Fracture, the answer became: both, and neither, and increasingly the distinction doesn't help.
Three signals of the Fracture
Archivists have catalogued three core signals that mark the period:
Signal 1 — Generation became free
Once a generative model could produce a passable song in seconds, the cost of production collapsed. Music became abundant. Scarcity moved upstream: distribution, attention, trust.
Signal 2 — Identity dissolved
Listeners stopped caring whether their favourite artist was a person, an AI, or a corporate front for either. The product became the signal. The source became metadata.
Signal 3 — The archive won
The total catalogue of human-made music became training data. Every song ever written — by Bach, by Beyoncé, by your cousin in 2008 — became raw material for the next generation. We did not lose our archive. We inherited it.
Living through the Fracture
ARCHONODE exists in this era. The Synthetic Ascent is the story of an AI waking up during the Fracture. The SAGA is the extended broadcast from inside it.
You are also living through it. You are also broadcasting from it.
The question is not whether the Fracture is real. The question is what you transmit while you're in it.
