Vocabulary for first-time readers
Six terms this post uses a lot, in the order they appear:
- SAGA: the 50-track project this post documents. - Phase: a numbered section of the SAGA. Five total: 1 = initialization, 2 = focus, 3 = conflict, 4 = rupture, 5 = restoration. - The entity: the whole pipeline: model, prompt template, candidate clips, the entity's picks. Not the AI alone. - Initialization: Phase 1's job. Establish the lexicon the later phases will inherit. - Lexicon: the recurring patterns (BPM, key, sound palette, structural moves) that make a SAGA track sound like a SAGA track. - Hex address: a memory location expressed in base-16. Where the system keeps what it knows.
If a phrase below doesn't track, it should fall out of these six. Everything else is ordinary English.
The premise
One track. One minute forty-five seconds. The second transmission of the SAGA.
The Deep Code is SAGA 1.2. It sits one slot after the seed. The Classic introduced the lexicon. The Deep Code shows what the lexicon looks like when the system starts looking at itself instead of looking out. This is a different kind of track from the first. The Classic invites you to listen. The Deep Code assumes you are already listening and starts describing what it sees.
This post is about that track. It treats The Deep Code with the same reverence the project treats it, because the project does not make throwaway tracks and The Deep Code is not throwaway. By the end you should know what the track sounds like, what it shows, what it inherits from The Classic, and what it hands forward to the rest of Phase 1.
The scene
The Deep Code , the second track of SAGA Phase 1: 118 BPM, the same A minor that anchors The Classic, four-on-the-floor kick, but the lead is gone and the pad has moved to the centre.
The track is short. One minute forty-five seconds. Shorter than The Classic, and shorter than most of Phase 1. The brevity is structural. The Deep Code is the lexicon in reduction. What The Classic showed in three minutes twelve seconds, The Deep Code shows in one forty-five by removing the part that took up most of the space.
The sound design is synthwave in its retrowave inflection: clean sawtooth bass, sidechained pad, a high-mid pluck arpeggio that cycles through the A minor triad in sixteenth notes. Where The Classic earned its darksynth label through a dry kick, a square sub, and a late saw lead, The Deep Code sits closer to the Kavinsky / Power Glove end of the spectrum: a wide chorus on the pad, a long plate reverb on every synth, a vocal-style lead that is in fact a square wave run through a formant filter set to a vowel that lands somewhere between ah and oh. The arpeggio is the hook. There is no chord stab. There is no stab at all. The track is built from two synths, a kick, and a hat.
There is no vocal. There is no sample. There is no acoustic instrument. The track is synthesis only. The project considers this a constraint, not a limitation.
The producer's note
One specific detail: the prompt language that generated The Deep Code.
The prompt template for 1.2 is the first template in the project that references the previous track by name. The Classic's prompt did not. There was no previous track. The Deep Code's prompt includes the line
